Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (May 25, 2022) – Kaleb Johnson tied a season-best result with a third-place showing last Friday at Jackson Motorplex.

The podium performance at the dirt oval in Jackson, Minn., during a Midwest Sprint Touring Series and Midwest Power Series event highlighted a three-race weekend that featured a top-10 result at a trio of different tracks.

“It started off pretty well at Jackson,” Johnson said. “We set quick time, which I’ve never done before. The track was a little heavier in the heat race so it was tough to pass and we finished third after starting fourth. The track widened out for the feature. I think if we could have drawn better than the seventh starting position we could have been a contender. We made some good gains to pass some cars and I had some luck on my side to end third.”

The team then headed to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday for a Midwest Power Series show. Johnson timed in 12th quickest before advancing from third to second in a heat race. He capped the night by gaining two positions in the feature to finish seventh.

“We got ourselves in a hole in qualifying,” he said. “Starting ninth in the feature with the people in front of you it’s tough to make a lot of gains because they are that good. I was in eighth most of the race. I passed a couple of cars to get to sixth. I was committed to the bottom because I tried the top a couple of times and let some guys get by me on the bottom. I was in sixth on the last restart and stayed on the bottom. Garet Williamson got around me so we finished seventh.”

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway, where Johnson qualified ninth quickest. A third-place finish in a heat race advanced him into the feature redraw and Johnson pulled the No. 4 to line up on the outside of the second row in the A Main.

“Sunday was a little disappointing, but that happens in racing,” he said. “We qualified decent and did all right in the heat race. We had a good redraw. I think my inexperience showed in the feature. I jumped the cushion a few times and made some dumb mistakes. I let guys with more experience find ways around me.”

Johnson recorded a 10th-place result, which was his second straight top 10 at the track.

This weekend features a trio of races with action at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday followed by back-to-back races at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday and Monday with the Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association.
