Kaleb Johnson Earns Top-10 Finish at Eagle Raceway

Inside Line Promotions – EAGLE, Neb. (April 22, 2019) – Kaleb Johnson scored his first top-10 finish of the young season among a stout field of cars Saturday night at Eagle Raceway.

Johnson’s night began with a critical and better than usual heat race run at the high-banked track.

“In the past, one of our main issues at Eagle has been doing well in our heat race,” he said. “It seems that we usually don’t do real well in the heat race, which causes us to run the B Main. This time we tried some different things and it seemed to pay off. The track was really slick from the start and I was able to run the bottom pretty well. We passed a few cars right away and then were able maintain second place to the end of the race.”

Johnson’s second-place finish in the heat race qualified him for the redraw for the night’s main event. He drew the 10th starting spot.

“The track changed a bit after they reworked it before the C and B Mains for all the classes,” Johnson said. “We didn’t tighten our car enough to run the bottom and it was too far around the place to run the top. I fell back early and then got by a few cars at the end to finish 10th.

“We had nothing to be ashamed about. We finished in the top 10 against strong competition with a car that could’ve been better. We travel to Eagle because of the competition there. We feel we need to race at places like that to become a better team. It’s always a big challenge racing there, but that’s something we expect and enjoy. We gained some experience and learned some things. Now we’ll move onto the next race. That’s what racing’s about.”

Johnson has a busy racing schedule this week.

“We plan to return to Eagle on Thursday to race with the Sprint Series of Nebraska,” he said. “Then we plan to race our 305 at Park Jefferson on Friday and Saturday.”

Although he doesn’t have a great amount of experience at Park Jefferson International Speedway, Johnson has enjoyed his previous competition there at the oval in Jefferson, S.D.

“The track usually seems to get slick there, which is the type of track I like,” he said. “I expect a lot of cars. It should be fun.

“We’re mainly looking forward to really getting back into racing this week with three consecutive nights scheduled.”
