Kaleb Johnson Earns Hard Charger Award at Belleville High Banks

Inside Line Promotions – BELLEVILLE, Kan. (July 8, 2019) – Kaleb Johnson rallied from mechanical woes earlier in the evening to score an 11th-place finish in United Rebel Sprint Series action Thursday night at Belleville High Banks.
“Our car wouldn’t fire for the heat race,” he said. “We discovered it was a fueling issue and got it fixed for the feature.”
Missing his heat race forced Johnson to start 22nd in the feature.
“We knew it would be tough starting in the back on that big of a track,” he said. “I was up to 15th around the halfway point and I wasted four or five laps trying to get around a car. I was lucky the yellow came out then. After that I was able to pick off about four more cars and we finished 11th.
“We moved forward, but I just wish we were able to start a little closer to the front. I guess if there was a positive to the night it was that we got the Hard Charger Award.”
While the team had hoped the overheating problems that have plagued their 305 engine this year were finally solved, the issue arose again in the feature and forced the team to cut their planned extended holiday weekend to just the one night.
“We decided that instead of wasting more money, we would just go home and get it resolved before we raced again,” he said. “We did finally figure out the problem on Saturday. It was one of those things that kind of make you bang your head against the wall. But now we actually know for sure what the problem was and we know it’s fixed.”
Johnson’s racing plans for this weekend are tentative and contingent on the status of his 360 engine.
“We’re hoping to have our 360 engine back to race this week,” he said. “If we do, we’ll race at Jackson on Friday and Knoxville on Saturday. If not, we’ll probably race the 305 at Jackson on Friday, at Park Jefferson on Saturday and in Spencer on Sunday.”
Johnson’s mechanical woes this season have opened his racing schedule for the remainder of the year.
“We’re just going to race as much as we can, whenever we can, for the rest of the year since we’ve had so much trouble,” he said.
